How to Plan a Holiday Proposal
November 8th, 2016 / Alese Oldenburg
The holiday season is one of the most popular—and romantic—times of the year to get engaged. But before that ring can slip on her finger, there’s a lot of planning involved! Make sure your proposal goes off without a hitch with our expert tips.
GET THE RING EARLY
Because it’s such a popular time of year to pop the question, don’t wait until the last minute to purchase the ring, or you might find the perfect one is out of stock or can’t arrive in time. We recommend that you order your ring at least 3 weeks in advance. It can take up to 12 business days for us to make your ring by hand, so factor that into account when you make your proposal plan. Make sure to check the SHIP DATE section during checkout to see when your ring will depart our workshop.
Note: We include free Second Day Air with all engagement ring purchases.
CHOOSE A RING FOR HER STYLE
It’s likely that she’s given some hints about the kind of ring she wants—or told you outright. But if not, you can get some guidance on choosing a stone with our Engagement Ring Style Infographic. You can also find a handy resource for choosing a carat weight with our Choosing Your Stone Size Infographic. Then, choose the gold type or other metal type to complete the look of the engagement ring.
FIND HER RING SIZE
If you don’t know her ring size and want to keep the upcoming proposal a surprise, get our handy tips on Sneaky Ways to Find Her Ring Size so it will be a perfect fit when you pop the question.
HOW WILL YOU ASK?
Think about your future fiancée. Would she like to be proposed to in front of family or friends? Or have a more private moment with just the two of you? Also keep the weather conditions in mind. If you want to propose outside but know it will be cold or snowy, plan the preceding activities so that she’ll be appropriately dressed—not freezing!
DOCUMENT THE MOMENT
This is going to be a special moment in your lives. The high emotion and nervousness can blur the memories—and no one wants that! Employ a photographer or a friend with a good eye to take pictures of the moment as it happens and afterward. Make sure you plan with them in advance so they stay hidden and don’t spoil the surprise! These are photos that you’ll treasure for years to come.
