5 Things Smart Couples Do After Engagement

You’re engaged! So…now what? After you’ve popped the bubbly and called all your friends, there are some important things to do—before you even start thinking about a venue.

GET AN APPRAISAL

You should get your engagement ring appraised. If you purchased your ring from Diamond Nexus, we will appraise it for just $50 and include that paperwork along with your ring (and also make sure to send us a ring selfie!) To get an appraisal, get in touch with our customer service team.

GET YOUR RING INSURED

Engagement ring insurance is important to cover your ring in the event that it is ever lost or stolen. Generally, you can add your ring insurance to your renter’s or homeowner’s policy. To do so, give your insurance provider a call and find out your options. The peace of mind is worth it!

CONSIDER YOUR BANDS

If you didn’t purchase your wedding band along with your engagement ring, there’s no better time to start thinking about it. Some ring designs, like halos or intricate pieces, require a special matching band that fits comfortably alongside the engagement ring. Others, such as solitaires, may have more options to choose from. It’s also time to start thinking about a band for soon-to-be-spouse!

TAKE GOOD CARE

Keeping your ring sparkly for all the pics you’ll want to take is key. You can purchase a cleaning kit from Diamond Nexus or simply use gentle dish soap and a (clean!) soft bristle toothbrush. Don’t forget to plug the sink before cleaning your ring!

FIND A RING DISH

We recommend taking off your ring while you shower or do activities that are hard on your hands such as gardening or cleaning. Find a ring dish with a design or saying you love and keep it by your bed or in the bathroom so your ring will always be safe—and adorable—in its special spot.

You can also consider getting your ring engraved; popular ideas are the date of your wedding or a special nickname. Once you’ve checked off this list, it’s on to planning the wedding!
